A univoltine species on the wing from April to July when it comes frequently to light and has been recorded from all garden and woodland traps. A species of mature broadleaved woodland.
Larvae feed on lichen growing on oak before overwintering as pupae in a cocoon within the growths of lichen.

Larvae feed on Silene and Lychnis species before overwintering as pupae underground in loose soil.
