Wingspan: 16-24mm
A bivoltine species of calcareous woodland , scrub and hedgerows at Las Descargues on the wing from May to September. The species comes readily to light and has been taken at all garden and outlying traps.
Larvae feed on various herbaceous plants and woody perennials from June to October before overwintering as a pupa below ground level.

A univoltine species recorded commonly here in woodland although it has been taken at all garden and woodland traps. On the wing from May to August.
Larvae feed on fungus on and under dead bark from September to May.

A univoltine species on the wing from May to July, later in the hills of the Massif Central close by. It comes readily to light and has been taken in all garden and woodland traps.
Larvae feed on Solidago before pupating in the soil under the foodplant or in plant detritus on the ground.
